I feel like I learned more lessons than I taught. I discovered so much about traveling, teaching, independence, lack of independence, being flexible, and being able to laugh at myself. I carry the experience with me everywhere I go.Having a volunteer in my classroom was awesome! Thanks to this program, students in our country get the marvelous opportunity to experience REAL ENGLISH. I arrived in March 2008…and I am married with a new baby girl. I am a former volunteer who fell in love in Chile and I have the EOD Program to thank for my happiness! What more can I say?Living with my host family was one of the best experiences I've had, they really became my real family in a foreign country! There's no better way to experience another culture and I recommend it to every volunteer!I was able to walk away with a profound appreciation of the virtues of patience and flexibility. I am still in contact with some of my students. Receiving word from them has been the highlight of many days.Teaching English in Chile was an eye opening experience that was beyond what I had anticipated. I faced challenges in the classroom and with the language that taught me to be more flexible, understanding and more creative while solving problems. After a few years in the workforce, I felt like something was missing still and I decided to participate in the English Opens Doors program. I'm so glad I did. The experience was one of the more meaningful and incredible things I have done in my life.I loved my experience in Taltal. I had a wonderful host family (oye Zuletas!), made some incredible friends in town, ate some of the best food I can imagine and had some great teaching experiences. I found a second home in Taltal.Having a volunteer in our house was an amazing experience. Katie was, and continues to be a daughter to us. A year ago I had two daughters and now I have three!
