Learn about our Part Time Volunteer Service

Are you an exchange student living in Chile who would like to give back to your community? If so, the English Opens Doors Part Time Volunteer Service Initiative may be right for you! This completely fee-free volunteer service partners native or near native English speakers with Chilean English teachers in public schools that are in need of a volunteer. Participants spend between 12 and 16 hours each week assisting their co-teacher with listening and speaking activities and facilitating cultural exchange. The initiative allows participants to make a difference while becoming more intimately involved with the communities in which they live while building important cross-cultural communication skills.

Please note that volunteers wishing to receive internship credit through their Part Time Volunteer Service must coordinate this credit with their universities. The English Opens Doors Program is unable to authorize any type of academic credit.

Read what one volunteer had to say about her experience:

I had a great experience with English Opens Doors. I volunteered at a school in ViƱa del Mar, Chile once a week… I think it was very beneficial for the students to meet a native English Speaker from the United States. They were able to establish a relationship with me, and realize on a personal, real level that they could benefit from learning English in school. It was also a very eye opening experience for me- to see a glimpse of the Education System in a Spanish speaking country… It was also fun! talking to the kids about their interests, as well as mine. I am really going to miss the kids and teachers at the Liceo.
